Taylor to Redskins

On the first morning of training camp, the Redskins lost two defense ends for the season: starting DE Philip Daniels due to a shredded knee and backup Alex Buzbee due to a snapped achilles.

On the first evening of training camp, the Redskins ponied up a second-round draft choice for disgruntled Dolphins DE Jason Taylor.

Redskins executive vice president of football operations (say that three times really fast) Vinny Cerrato gushed, "We acquired a perennial Pro Bowl player and one of the NFL's top pass rushers." Vinny has a point. Taylor has made the pro bowl 4 consecutive years and 6 of the last 8. His average over the last few years of 12 sacks and 43 tackles is a far cry better than Daniels' 3 sacks and 24 tackles.

Even if Taylor losses a step due to age or due to the fact that he was cutting a rug all spring with Paula Abdul or whoever the hell is on that show, this constitutes an upgrade for already very good Redskins defense, and is a blow to an already awful Dolphins defense.

It also shows to veterans around the league that if you grumble enough, you can get out of your present situation. I wonder if Chad Johnson and Brett Favre are paying attention.
