The Brett Favre situation continues to get weirder and weirder, and finally something has happened that MIGHT affect our fantasy football projections.
Favre has been reinstated by the league, and will return to Packers camp this week, where he presumably will be allowed to compete for the starting quarterback position with Aaron Rodgers. If there is any kind of legitimate competition, then it is very likely that Favre will win, but I still can't help but think this will not be a legitimate competition. The Packers brass has stood adamantly behind Rodgers for the last month, and they didn't suddenly have an epiphany.
Most experts think that Favre will be traded or cut before the start of the season, and I tend to agree. The next couple weeks will tell us what the Packers really have planned, as we will see how many reps Favre gets with the first team in practices. If Favre is getting less than half the reps with the starters, then you can believe that he won't be starting for the Pack. If, on the other hand, he is getting half or more of the repetitions, then the Packers are being honest about giving Brett a chance.
If you have a draft before this information becomes available, then you have no choice but to avoid both Rodgers and Favre until the late rounds of your draft, and if you take, you had better take the other. The plus side of this is that you may wind up with two starting QBs, but every day Favre spends in Packers camp makes it less likely that he will be starting for someone else this season.
I will get to updating the Packers stats probably tomorrow, and I think the only choice I have right now is to split the Packers passes between them.
