Projections for Pennington

Yesterday, we took a look at projections for the Jets new quarterback, so today, we will look at projections for their old quarterback.

We had previously projected Tony Sparano's offense to throw the ball 450 times, and I don't see the addition of Pennington making a difference. Chad Henne has impressed in camp and in one pre-season game, so I think that they will hand over the reigns to him before the season is up. Give 350 passes to Pennington, 100 to Henne.

Pennington's not known for his arm strength, but he is very accurate. We'll give him a 65% completion percentage, just under his career average. Pennington's career yards per attempt is 7.2, but he hasn't topped 6.9 in the last three years. Factor in the Dolphins poor receiving corps, and we'll give him an average of 6.65 for this season. His career TD rate is 4.3%, but he hasn't topped 3.8% over the last three years. For this year, we'll put him at 3.5%. We will also give him the same interception rate.

Factor in schedule and you get the following for Dolphins passers:

Name Pos Comp Att Yards TDs Ints Yard Var TD Var
Chad Pennington QB 228 350 2388 12 12 10 26
Chad Henne QB 50 100 645 3 5 20 40
Total
278 450 3034 15 16
