With Dan Orlovsky out, the Lions looked like they were finally forced to turn to Drew Stanton, who Rod Marinelli's coaching staff has been treating like a red-headed step-child as Jon Kitna and Orlovsky have stunk up Ford Field (even more than usual). Then, on Monday, rumors started to spread that newly-signed Duante Culpepper would get the start over Stanton despite just a week of practice with the team. Now, MLive.com's Tom Kowalski reports that the Lions still do not have a clear starter for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Culpepper did not exactly set the world on fire in Oakland last year, with TPV averages of 190 yards, 0.6 TDs and 0.7 Ints in 7 games. And I'm sure that sitting around his house and coaching his son's little league team over the past 9 months haven't made him any better. That means that Stanton must be doing absolutely nothing to inspire confidence in the coaching staff.
Given that we don't know who will be starting for the Lions, but we do know that whoever will be starting either won't have a firm grasp of the offense or won't have much talent or both, we are downgrading our projections for every Lion on the fantasy radar, which means Calvin Johnson. I just don't know what to expect out of the Detriot offense this week, and that makes Johnson someone to bench, if you have a decent alternative. Look here for our full WR rankings for the week.
